Natasha Usenko, B.A. (Hons.), MA
JAZZ, LYRICAL, MUSICAL THEATRE & TAP
Born and raised in the Lower Mainland, Natasha began her dance career at the Richmond Academy of Dance.
Her extensive training encompasses Classical Ballet, Royal Academy of Dance techniques, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, vocal techniques, and Lyrical. With over twenty years of dance experience, She has competed across the Lower Mainland, earning numerous accolades and scholarships.
Natasha has worked with many internationally acclaimed pedagogues, including David Simpson and Jeff Hyslop. She has also had the pleasure to perform with Avril Lavigne and with Cole Armour, both live and in music videos. In addition to her dance training, Natasha’s vocal education has led her to perform classical and musical theatre pieces. She has showcased excerpts and solos from renowned works such as Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Pirates of Penzance, Mary Poppins, and Finding Neverland.
Because of her extensive breadth of dance training. Natasha has studied, performed, assisted, and taught a wide range of disciplines. She enjoys teaching people of all ages and abilities and has experience teaching children between the ages of 2 and 18, young adults, and older adults, both within the recreational, pre-professional, and professional divisions. Natasha firmly believes that the discipline and lessons learned in dance extend beyond the studio, and she is passionate about empowering students to reach their full potential while inspiring their creativity. Notably, her approach to teaching is technical, passionate, intentional, and altruistic. Natasha’s artistic practice intends to bring images and ideas to life through real-life, story-driven material. She aims to connect with audiences by exploring a variety of dynamics, textures, and moods in her creations.
Given her keen interest in individual development and passion for supporting individuals of all abilities, Natasha obtained a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Psychology and an Extended Minor in Criminology from Simon Fraser University. As a firm believer that teachers are lifelong students, Natasha continually advances her own education and training. Notably, she completed a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology (Law and Forensic Track), and continues to pursue her PhD.
At the Richmond Academy of Dance, Natasha has choreographed award-winning pieces, with her soloists and group dancers excelling in numerous competitions. She is proud to be a faculty member at the Academy, where for over ten years, she has inspired her dancers with her energetic and enthusiastic approach.
