Frequently Asked Questions

Can we try a class before registering?

Absolutely! If you are interested in trying out a new style of dance, please contact us and you can try your first class on us!

Where can I find your schedule and pricing?

At The Richmond Academy of Dance, we are proud to provide individualized programming for each student. We place students in the best program for their specific age, experience and progress in each of their various disciplines, allowing students to become the most successful dancers they can be. As a result, we do not post our schedules or fees online as they can vary so greatly between students.

Will my child have performance opportunities?

Yes! We strongly believe in providing all of our dancers opportunities to work toward the exciting goal of performing for a live audience in a theatre.

We host an annual Holiday Season Concert every December which includes excerpts from the Nutcracker, professional guests artists, and our professional division performing our faculty’s original choreography.

In June we hold two year-end shows; one for our General Division, and one for our Professional Division.

Throughout the year we also participate in many local and community events. We believe in connecting with our community and sharing our dancers’ talents, while helping them develop.

Will I be able to watch my child’s classes?

Classes will be open for parents to view during our first and third term. We will send out more details during the year.

Do you participate in competitions?

We provide competition performance opportunities for our closed and professional division dancers. If you are interested in these programs, please contact us!

Do you offer exams?

Yes, we offer Royal Academy of Dance Children’s and Vocational exams. Our certified Classical Ballet teachers prepare students annually for RAD exams.

Can we visit the studio before registering?

Yes, absolutely! We love meeting new dancers and their families and would be happy to show you around our spacious studios in our beautiful River Road location. Please contact our office by email or by phone to schedule a time.

Where can I drop off and/or access short term parking?

  • On Premises – we have 8 stalls on premises in front of the building for short term parking.

  • "Drop Off Zone" - immediately north of our driveway entrance.  This zone allows for up to 3 vehicles to continuously cycle through for drop off and pick up.  Please limit your occupancy in this zone to no more than 5 minutes, otherwise you will be ticketed.

  • Please Note:

    • Tickets will be issued for safety violations, such as parking too close to fire hydrants, within the yellow curb of a driveway entrance, etc.

    • In order for all to benefit from the desire to park on or near the Academy front door, please limit your stay in the parking lot on premises and the "Drop off Zone" and be respectful of others.

You cannot park:

  • Hatched Area – DO NOT PARK in this area, especially in front of the glass entry doors.  It is intended to allow for safe movement of pedestrians and keeps open access down the side of the building as well as the Faculty only parking.

  • Central Lot Area - DO NOT PARK in this area, as it restricts anyone getting in and out safely.

  • "No Stopping" Zones – This is self-explanatory.  These zones are created because the areas need to be clear at all times to minimize hazards for drivers and pedestrians.

  • “Permit Only" - on River Road or anywhere in an area identified by such signage.  PLEASE NOTE: The City will no longer allow parking in these zones without a permit.  You are at risk of being ticketed if you park in these areas without a permit.  This is new to us, so please be aware of this change. We thank you for working within the above noted requirements.

How do I pay for classes?

Our yearly fees are divided into 3 Term Payments:

  • Term 1: September 2024– December 2024, due before August 6, 2024, or immediately after your trial class

  • Term 2: January 2025 - March 2025- due on December 6, 2024

  • Term 3: April 2025 – June 2025 – due on March 3, 2025

Who can I talk to if I have more questions?

Our philosophy is that teachers, parents and students work together for the best learning environment possible. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please let our office know that you would like to speak with your child’s teacher or a Director.
