Nicola is a graduate of the teaching program at the Royal Ballet School in London, England, a three-year full-time training program covering all aspects of dance training including classical ballet, pointe work, repertoire, RAD and Cecchetti syllabi, character dance, Spanish dance, music, history of dance and Benish notation. She graduated top of her class and was awarded the 1998 Dame Ninette de Valois Award for excellence in teaching.
She taught for nine years at the London Studio Centre, a professional performing arts school. Nicola held the position of Head of Year for all first- and second-year students which involved creating individualized timetables for students to guide them in meeting their unique needs and career choices. She also worked extensively with leading dance physiotherapists to create rehabilitation programs for injured dancers. While at the London Studio Centre, Nicola worked closely with Margaret Barbieri, former Principal Dancer with the Royal Ballet Company, providing assistance on audition tours throughout Europe for Margaret Barbieri’s professional company Images of Dance.
Since relocating to Vancouver, Nicola has worked at many schools throughout the Lower Mainland. She has been on faculty at Harbour Dance for the last sixteen years and is a regular guest teacher for Ballet BC. Nicola is also invited to adjudicate competitions and festivals around the country, most recently for the Prince Albert Festival of Dance in Saskatchewan.
