Designed to prepare dancers for professional performance careers and for post-graduate dance degree studies, this Division is entered into by audition only. Students are required to commit to the prescribed number of classes for their level and attend scheduled performance opportunities during the year. If selected to participate in various festivals, guest teacher workshops, or other opportunities, participation is obligatory. Talent is always recognized and given every opportunity to develop.
The Professional Division includes intensive Intermediate and Senior Half-Day Programs as well as a Professional After School Program. Dancers receive training in classical ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, tap, musical theatre, acting, voice training, and hip hop. Classical technique classes include studies in pointe, variations, repertoire, pas de deux, experiential anatomy, body conditioning, and Pilates. Dancers rehearse and perform in professional theatres and, in December, with a live orchestra. World-renowned guest artists are attracted to the Academy and are invited annually to coach dancers in this Division. Guest artists introduce dance styles and techniques. These artists train and stage their newest choreography, challenging each dancer to master the world's newest philosophies. Dancers are continuously brought to their highest individual level by the resident companies. The faculty's vast knowledge and experience is the foundation for finding placements for these dancers upon graduation in companies and post secondary institutions around the world. To date, graduates are dancing with The National Ballet of Canada, Alberta Ballet, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Ballet Jorgen, Boston Conservatory, The Juilliard School, New York, Cape Town Ballet, as well as apprenticeship positions internationally.
This highly successful Division has received recognition by such artists as Veronica Tennant, Anna-Marie Holmes, Diane Van Schoor (Ballet Principal, Royal Ballet School), Jeff Hyslop (Phantom of the Opera and various TV programs), Susan Toumine (Les Grands Ballets Canadiens), Karen Averty (Paris Opera Ballet), Cody Green (Broadway), Annette av Paul, Paul Caplette (Royal Winnipeg Ballet), Edmund Stripe (Alberta Ballet), as well as North America's finest post secondary dance training institutions.
Dancers come annually from as far as Japan to experience the best of classical, modern and musical theatre training. This fusion of talent from different backgrounds adds to the wonderful atmosphere the Academy is known for. The exhilarating experiences in this Division are the reason the results of this specialized program are truly unique.
Students who are seriously intent on pursuing dance, enter this program by audition only. The ballet training is primarily the Vaganova Method and at the discretion of the teachers, the students will participate in the Royal Academy of Dancing examinations. The Professional Division includes an intensive Senior Half-Day Program. To date, graduates are dancing with the Canadian National Ballet, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Alberta Ballet, Les Ballets Jazz in Montreal, Batshevva Dance Company in Israel, Bad Boys of Dance, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and studying with such schools as Julliard in New York, Central Ballet in London, England, the dance departments of Ryerson Polytechnic Institute and Arizona State University as well as several other apprenticeship positions around the world.
