Classical ballet is one of the main dance disciplines taught at the Academy. The Ballet Program is the Academy's own carefully constructed system of training. It is developed from the wealth of experience of its expert teachers and includes the strengths of the Vaganova, Chechetti and Royal Academy of Dance Syllabi. It is the means by which students are prepared for a career with the world's top dance companies.
Dancers are accepted from the age of 3 years where the focus is rhythm and coordination. A throough grounding in their basics is developed in the younger years, including character dance and body conditioning. From the age of 6 years, the Academy's Ballet Program offers Recreational, Closed and Professional Divisions, including the Intermediate and Senior Half-Day Programs. Each Division is developed to meet the goals of each individual dancer. The Royal Academy of Dance examinations are offered in all divisions from the Primary to the Solo Seal level. The Professional Divisions are entered into by audition only. The course of study includes Experiential Anatomy, pointe, repertoire, pas de deux, body conditioning, Pilates, variations, and Men's class.
The Ballet Program strives to develop each dancer's confidence poise, motivation and self discipline. The training is the means by which students are prepared for a career with the world's leading dance companies or where their life skills learned can be applied with success in any other profession.
The Ballet Program is unique in that it also includes intensive studies in modern and additionally gives dancers the opportunity to train in lyrical, contemporary, jazz, musical theatre, tap and voice. The Academy's diversity in dance disciplines offered allows its Ballet Program dancers to create their own specialized programs based on their interests and strengths. Graduates from the program continue to be the strongest classical and most well rounded dancers possible. Graduates from this program now dancing professionally in the world's most respected companies, are a testament to the results this program achieves both technically and artistically for each dancer enrolled.
