Ms. Heather Joosten-Fair is an award-winning dancer, choreographer, and teacher, as well as a proud Director and Co-owner of The Richmond Academy of Dance. She has trained extensively in the dance arts of tap, lyrical and jazz with world greats such as Mr. Ross McKim (London Contemporary Dance Theatre), Mr. Duncan Noble (North Carolina School of the Arts), the exceptional faculty of Los Angeles’ Edge School of Performing Arts, and many more. Upon winning numerous awards for her own performances, Ms. Joosten-Fair has gone on to receive many accolades for her choreography across Canada and the US. She has been recognized by dance masters including LA’s Adam Parsons, Charles McGowan and Christine Woodward; and by LA Danceforce, Surrey Dance Festival and Coquitlam Festival, winning Overall Best Choreography in various categories. Heather has choreographed for high-profile events such as Beijing World Expo Gala, 2010 Cultural Olympiad, the 100-Year Anniversary of the PNE, Miss Chinatown Pageant, Artists in Action, R&B Group “Quick Trouble”, and Canada’s own “Cole Armour“.
In addition Heather has donated her time to create dance pieces and contribute to projects such as “The Youth Gang Awareness” with the Vancouver City Police, “Made in Vancouver” festival supporting local arts groups, and “Kids Help Kids” benefit event. She is also proud of her work with the Black Historical Society, choreographing for many of their events, as well as her contributions to the Royal Caribbean Revue Cast, Groove Productions, and Artists in Action Creative Group.
At The Richmond Academy of Dance, Heather has enjoyed directing the jazz, contemporary, tap, hip-hop, and musical theatre programs for 27 years. Committed to nurturing each individual student, teaching with dedication and compassion, The Academy has established a professional training environment while grooming outstanding and versatile young artists who are well prepared to pursue professional careers in renowned theatres and companies worldwide. Graduates have said, “Heather harnesses the strengths of her dancers and utilizes them brilliantly”.
Heather is extremely proud of the Academy’s Alumni, many of whom are continuing their training in prestigious schools, have established their own companies, are teaching professionally, or are performing on the stage and screen. Exciting examples include: performing with Elton John and Lady Gaga, on MTV and at the Tony Awards; performing in companies such as The Bad Boys of Dance, on Broadway in the musicals "Jesus Christ Superstar", and various off- Broadway musicals; teaching at Pineapple Studios in London, England, Boston Conservatory, Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers, Digitize, Le Ballet Jazz de Montreal, Alvin Ailey, Edge School of Performing Arts, and Broadway Dance Centre; as well as performing in numerous leading-edge companies and theatres across the globe.
Heather is regularly invited to guest teach and adjudicate in dance competitions across the US, She is committed to staying current and upgrading her skills, training on an ongoing basis in various workshops throughout North America. Heather alongside with Co-Directors Annette and Jozef Jakubowski, continue to fulfill their dream of providing exceptional dance training, and preparing well-rounded, talented and committed professionals of the future.
